+

Erectile Dysfunction (E.D.)

The difficulty or inability to produce or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfying sexual activity.

+

Erection cascade

The steps involved in producing an erection. Sexual stimulation activates the parasympathetic system which causes nerve terminals in the penis to release nitric oxide (NO), and in turn, increase cGMP levels. As a result, the penile blood vessels dilate, allowing the penis to engorge with blood. This expansion subsequently compresses the veins surrounding the erectile tissue, restricting venous outflow. As a result, the blood pressure localized in the penis increases dramatically to produce a rigid erection, a process known as tumescence.

+

Flavor-masking

Removing or hiding a taste.

+

Food & Drug Administration (FDA)

The FDA is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the control and supervision of food safety, tobacco products, dietary supplements, prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceutical drugs (medications), vaccines, biopharmaceuticals, blood transfusions, medical devices, electromagnetic radiation emitting devices (ERED), cosmetics, animal foods & feed, and veterinary products.

The Rule also gives individuals rights over their protected health information, including rights to examine and obtain a copy of their health records, to direct a covered entity to transmit to a third party an electronic copy of their protected health information in an electronic health record, and to request corrections. The HIPAA Security Rule establishes national standards to protect individuals’ electronic personal health information that is created, received, used, or maintained by a covered entity. The Security Rule requires appropriate administrative, physical and technical safeguards to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and security of electronic protected health information.

+

Onset of action

+

PDE5 Inhibitor

Phosphodiesterases are the enzymes responsible for degrading (breaking down) cAMP and cGMP. The medications that are in Rugiet Ready (sildenafil and tadalafil) are phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Inhibiting PDE5 increases the amount of available cGMP, thus increasing smooth muscle relaxation and blood vessel dilation, increasing blood flow into the penis, and resulting in an erection.

+

Pharmacokinetics

Pharmacokinetics describes how the body affects a specific chemical after administration through the mechanisms of absorption and distribution, as well as the metabolic changes of the substance in the body, and the effects and routes of excretion of the metabolites of the drug. Pharmacokinetic properties of chemicals are affected by the route of administration and the dose of administered drug. These may affect the absorption rate.
